AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE SIGNATURE OF AMERICAN NAVAL COMMANDER, JOHN PAUL JONES.
John Paul Jones, a Scottish-born naval officer, is known as the “Father of the American Navy” for his service in the Continental Navy during the American Revolution. He was known for his bravery against the British in the North Sea and for harassing British naval forces throughout the war. Jones is considered the first international naval hero of the United States. He is famous for saying, “I have not yet begun to fight!” during the engagement between the Serapis and Bonhomme Richard during the Revolutionary War.
Offered here is a rare signature of John Paul Jones extracted from a letter (signed Jno P Jones,” retaining the felicitation above “your most obedt & very humble servt.) A strongly penned signature in dark brown ink on a rectangular paper, approximately 1 x 3 1/2 inches (2.5 x 9 cm). Beautifully framed with an engraved portrait. Offered with a Certificate of Authenticity from University Archives, dated April 28, 2006, signed by John Reznikoff.
