SUBURB 1793 APPOINTMENT SIGNED BY BOTH JOHN HANCOCK AND SAMUEL ADAMS.
John Hancock and Samuel Adams both sign this partly printed 11.5 x 17 document dated July 2, 1793. Boldly signed on the left side below the affixed seal by Hancock, and countersigned at the conclusion by John Avery as junior secretary. 1 page Appointing Daniel Perry as Justice of. the Peace. Hancock signs as Governor of Massachusetts and Adams endorsed on the reverse as lieutenant governor, beneath a manuscript statement dated July 11, 1789, certifying that Perry “took the several Oaths required by the Constitution of this Commonwealth”.
This beautifully preserved document verifies that Perry, “Personally appeared “…and took the oaths and declaration prescribed by the Constitution of the Commonwealth.” Repaired clean split at horizontal fold. The white wafer seal is fully intact, and Hancock’s signature bold and prominent. Adams would succeed Hancock as governor upon his death in 1793, and went on to be elected for four consecutive annual terms. An exceptionally rare and desirable combination of two foremost leaders of the American Revolution. Duel Hancock-Adams signed documents seldom come to market.
