ORIGINAL KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL YACHT OFFICIAL FLAG BOX
Amazing and historic flag box with the label of the Presidential Yacht, Honey Fitz. The locking metal flag box bearing the “Honey Fitz/Presidential Yacht” seal to the cover was removed from the yacht after the Kennedy period, circa 1960s. 10 1/2 L x 7 1/2 D x 4 1/2 H. This iconic emblem of the Kennedy “Camelot” years exhibits expected wear and scratches and lacks its original key. Together with an associated 48 star American Flag, 66 x 40 inches.
An intriguing relic of the period when President Kennedy renamed the presidential yacht Honey Fitz. Built in 1931 for a Chicago businessman who used it to sail Lake Michigan, the yacht was acquired by the U.S. Government in 1942 and became the presidential yacht “Barbara Ann” before the name was changed and the yacht refitted by the Kennedy administration in 1961. This label was likely added to the box at that time and similar seals are found on other memorabilia of the ship. The Kennedys spent many happy hours on the boat during his foreshortened presidency and the yacht was in service to the president until sold by the Nixon administration. Honey Fitz has been restored and remains privately owned on Palm Beach, Florida.
