RARE SIGNED LIMITED EDITION OF JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT’S DRAWINGS
Jean-Michel Basquiat. Drawings. [Zurich and New York]: Edition Bischofberger and Boone, [1985]. First edition, first printing, number 508 of 1,000 copies, signed by Basquiat on the limitation page. Oblong folio. Portrait frontispiece of the artist by James van der Zee. A fine copy in excellent condition. A scarce signed limited edition celebrating Basquiat’s second solo show at the Mary Boone Gallery in March 1985.
Book features 32 colored plates of Basquiat’s artwork completed during the winter of 1982-83, and is extraordinarily rare as signed. Even though Basquiat numbered this book in a limited edition of 1,000, it’s believed that the number of signed copies are far fewer, and rarely appear on the market. Zurich: Edition Gallery Bruno Bischofberger and New York: Mary Boone Gallery, 1985 published jointly. Bound in publisher’s grey cloth boards with black titling, and housed in illustrated dust jacket. Large first edition measures 14″ x 10.5″. Well preserved in near fine condition.
