With a first-rate inscription signed by Hammett, reading: “To Lu Kaye – / with everything / I can think of – / and then plus & / plus & plus – and / all in spades – and, / Jesus, do I mean / it. / Dashiell Hammett” on the half-title page. Octavo. 259 pages. Publisher’s red cloth stamped in black. Housed in a black leather slipcase and cloth chemise. Previous owner’s name to the verso of the half-title page. Overall, a handsome copy in very good condition. Leo Kaye was a Hollywood bit player in a handful of films in the 1940s.
