ONE OF THE EARLIEST BEATLES SIGNED PROMO CARDS IN EXISTENCE
Beatles Signed Promo Card from Their ‘Going-Away’ Cavern Club Show (April 5, 1962)
Super early 1962 Cavern Club promo card signed by Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Best.
Extremely rare, early vintage glossy 5.75 x 4 promo card from the Beatles’ Cavern Club ‘going away’ performance on April 5, 1962, signed and inscribed on the reverse in ballpoint, “Love to Barbara, John Lennon, xxx,” “To Barbara, from Paul McCartney, xxx,” “Love to Barbara from George Harrison, xxxx,” and, “Love to Barbara from Pete Best, xxx.” The front features a portrait of the band (with Pete Best as drummer) taken by Albert Marion on December 17, 1961, during the band’s first professional photo shoot organized by Brian Epstein. The reverse is imprinted: “With Best Wishes from Paul, Pete, John, George, The Beatles, April 5th 1962.” In very good to fine condition, with creasing and light soiling, and some minor surface loss not affecting any of the signatures.
The April 5th show was organized by The Beatles Fan Club and dubbed ‘the Beatles for their fans,’ as a special ‘going away’ show before they traveled to Hamburg. The group played the first part of the special show in their black leather outfits, then changed into their new Beno Dorn suits and ties for the second part. According to the accompanying Certificate of Authenticity dated November 10, 2004, from Frank Caiazzo, “ …they came out in their new “polished” look, matching suits, and thus, their stage appearance was changed forever.” Rare and highly sought after card even in unsigned examples, this is an absolutely remarkable, ultra-early Beatles promo card.
Comes with Certificates of Authenticity from both Frank Caiazzo and Roger Epperson. In his Certificate, Caiazzo states, “Sets of Beatles autographs with Pete Best are rare and desirable, and this is a nice one to have because you can pinpoint it to this historic event.”
