RONALD REAGAN SIGNS THE MOST FAMOUS QUOTE OF HIS PRESIDENCY ON WHITE HOUSE LETTERHEAD
An exceedingly rare hand written quotation signed by Ronald Reagan, penned on White House Stationery. In calligraphy, Reagan’s most famous challenge and accomplishment is written, “Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down THis Wall!.” Signed just above, “Ronald Reagan”, in bold blue ink. This quotation is from one of the most Presidential speeches of all time, given by President Reagan at the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Gederal Republic of Germany, on June 12, 1987.
Reagan, Ronald Wilson 1911-2004. 40th President of the United States from 1981-1989, a Republican. He was governor of California from 1966 – 1974, and a former Hollywood actor. In 1980 he defeated Jimmy Carter, and won a second term in 1984, defeating Walter Mondale. He introduced a major program of economic change aimed at reducing government spending and inflation, took a strong anti-Communist stand, especially in the Middle East and Central America, and introduced the Strategic Defense Initiative. In 1981 he was wounded in an assassination attempt. During his second term, he backed off from his previous attitude of confrontation with the USSR, reaching a major arms reduction accord with Soviet leader Gorbachev. His domestic popularity remained high throughout his presidency, despite charges of corruption against his aides, and his inability to get much of his program through Congress.
